Henry A. Waxman served as a lawyer in private practice and as a member of the California State Assembly from 1969 until 1974. In 1974 he was elected as Congressman for the California Twenty-fourth district, and served in Congress from 1975 to 2015. During his time in the US House of Representatives, Waxman participated in creating and passing legislation pertaining to a number of issues ranging from the environment and health care to government reform. He retired from the US House of Representatives in 2015. The collection consists of committee files and personal office files related to Waxman's tenure in Congress, and a small number of awards.

Henry Arnold Waxman (born September 12, 1939) is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from California's 24th (1975-1993), 29th (1993-2003), 30th (2003-2013), and 33rd (2013-2015) congressional districts. Born in Los Angeles, California, he attended public schools there before earning B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating, he worked as a lawyer.
